Linksys wcg200 hacking
Briefly, the issues affect the Linksys line of Smart Wi-Fi routers, which includes more than 20 ubiquitous models, available all around the world. Linksys issued a security advisory , recommending that customers disable Guest Networks on their routers. For obvious reasons, IOActive did not disclose exactly how the vulnerabilities work, but we can hazard a guess that some of the more serious ones target issues in the Guest Network framework.
Linksys provides full instructions on how to do this. Be specific about what you want Comcast to do for you. I recommend 1 of 2 choices: 1. Revert your Linksys WCG v1 to it's original firmware. Call, do not e-mail , Comcast customer relations and ask to speak with a manager. Get that manager's direct phone number. If the manager doesn't provide satisfaction, then ask to speak to the director. Get the director's direct phone number. If management doesn't already know what's happening, they will find out.
If they don't find out quickly, keep calling them to get a status on the situation. Believe me, managers do not want direct calls from customers complaining about issues. They have day jobs. All you need to do is provide an incentive.
The incentive is that you will stop calling them asking for a status on your problem. And always, be nice, but persistent. It always works. I am having the same issue. I have not tried any other wireless clients. One thing I have noticed: it reboots only when I am using wireless and have wired clients connected. If I disconnect or turn off all my wired clients, it no longer reboots itself when using wireless.
Now, at least I have some ammo when I call Comcast to report the issue. Thanks for the input, everyone. BTW, thanks for the tips on escalation this with Comcast. I do not feel that it is Linksys' problem. I think I'll stick to the router. Of course I'm going to call Comcast and complain. I saw this thread late but this is definitely a problem I've been pulling my hair out on.
This is very consistent I've called Linksys many times and all their attempts were unsuccessful. I've tried reducing the rates, thresholds, etc and switching channels I'm totally lost. Any suggestions????
Oh my god!!! After 3 months of trying to resolve this problem with Comcast and Linksys I finally realize that it was not my laptop's upate to XP SP2 that has caused all of these problems. For the past 3 months I have just been using this laptob wired via ethernet because I have been having the exact problems you described. I was going to re-install XP this weekend. I am so grateful I found this posting!! You saved me a lot of time. My question is will this power change stop all of the modem resets too??
My modem is still resetting itself. The wireless connection is much better now with the powermode change but I find the modem resets unacceptable because I have Vonage and it disconnects my telephone calls. Comcast will do nothing and not accept responsibility for their invasion of my personal property.
Their firmware update to my Linksys WCGv1 wireless gateway broke my cable modem. They say it is a hardware problem and that I need to buy a new cable modem. Now, while it s clear that the CherryBlossom project targeted the mentioned list of routers, however, it still remains unclear if they have actually been successfully compromised.
Now, the reason why this list is pertinent to our readers in India as well, is that no hack is local anymore. It s not just trade and travel that is global, but also vulnerabilities and hacks. And therefore it is never a bad idea to update your home router s firmware, as these devices stand on the front line of your digital security. And in case your device is on the list, you must immediately flash your firmware.
To do so, simply search the internet for your router s make and model with the keyword firmware, and follow your vendor s instructions. The CherryBlossom documents included firmware flashing instructions labeled Flytrap for each of these router models. Photo Gallery. Not everyone has faith in the metaverse: Here s why.
